Art is very much a part of winemaking. Benny and I feel like that is part of what makes us a good team.
I contribute artistic creativity and he contributes good farming and common sense.
Before we decided to plant
the first vines, and follow our dream of producing quality North Carolina wines, I worked in marketing and advertising.
Since childhood I have loved to draw and paint. Planting the vineyard we thought would allow me more free time to follow
those pursuits. Because of our “hands-on” approach, free time is no longer as available; therefore, painting is not something
I get to enjoy very often. However, I am very fortunate to have a reason and opportunity to display some of my favorite works
in the form of our wine labels. All the Laurel Gray wine labels and our logo are my original watercolors. Some, such as Rose 1773,
I did years before and found it was perfect for that wine. Others were done specifically to evoke the smells and flavors of the wine
and others still, pay tribute to North Carolina farm life. All the original paintings can be found decorating the walls of the
vineyard tasting room. Please stop by to visit or view them in our online gallery.
